Did the '00 Kodiaks have a gas guage? My boss just bought two new '01 Kodiaks and said that he wanted to wait for the '01 because they added the speedometer, trip meter and gas guage. Did they have a gas guage before, or is it different for '01? I thought other than that, it was the same identical machine.

They were just down in Utah and pulled out three 6 pt. elk. One of them ended up rolling his machine into a dry creek bed forward end over end. Broke the rear rack through the fender, broke the break light, and damaged both rear fenders. Other than that, it was OK. Felt pretty bad for him though, he'd only had about 15 miles on it! Guess he'll learn next time to look where he's going before he jumps into something.

The 2000 models did have a gas gauge, but I wish it had a tripmeter and speedo.

Harold,
When I have a choice to go through or around the mud, I take the dirty route every time. My brake pad life shows this but I would still buy the Kodiak again if it needed replacing today. Avoiding the heavy stuff should help extend brake pad life. Don't procrastinate--just go buy the Kodiak and have a ball. The pads are easy to replace.

Thanks Frano. I will probably go for the Kodiak. The '01's should be arriving at my local dealer in 1-2 weeks.

I have a 2000 Kodiak 4x4 with over 100 hours on it with minimal brake pad wear. I avoid deep mud but will not turn around and go home if there is no trail around it.
Premature brake pad wear is not happening on ALL Y2Kodiaks.

I own a 2000 kodiak 4x4 with 26 x 10 x 12 Mud Bugs all the way around. It's opening weeked of squirrel season and all the 450 Honda's are amazed by what this yamaha can do. If anyone knows where I can get a speedometer for my bike let me know

Harold, I've checked into it. They have NOT fixed the back braking problem on the Kodiak or Grizzly for that matter. But I can tell you this much, the Kodiak is a darn good machine. Their rear brakes just suck. I've heard that if you put on better pads like EBC, that will help. I'll soon know, just put EBC pads on last week.

Yamaha makes a speedo for the Kodiak. You can get one from the dealership for around $140
