Default 400 ex question

I dont keep dyno charts on my desktop but as far as I remember 400ex is 24 or 25hp stock, KFX and its variants are upper 20s. Im a yamaha person so I dont hear alot of conversation about them but I would imagine 27-29. 400ex has a lot of torque and the rev limiter is like 8000 or 9000 or so. No idea on other.

they say that the z400 (which is the same as the kfx400 and artic crap 400) acts as a piped 400ex with up to date dealies

Default 400 ex question

much as I hate the 400ex it is bullet proof, handles good, and plenty of power for the average person once piped so I couldnt really give anyone a good reason to stay away from them. Out of date is a relative term. Its a fourvalve motor with good power in a good handling quad. So the Z400 has more power and reverse, but theres always a machine looming over your head for a bit more money with a bit more power and features unless your buying top of the line. Gotta draw the line somewhere and pick one. More money to go a bit faster, or less money to go a bit slower with no reverse. Youll be happy with either. Your grass is always green enough until you see the otherside, its not till then your unhappy. Just dont go riding a faster bike and youll be alright.

Default 400 ex question

I've got a 400ex. I love it. I don't ride it a whole lot anymore since I got my yfz 450, but it's still an awesome bike. The 400 comes stock with a crazy restricted exhaust. Pipe filter and jet it and the thing will really open up. Mine now has the 440 big bore kit, race carb, race cam, rev box (pointless), high compression piston, pipe, intake, jet, and some other goodies. The air cooled factor isn't really a big deal with this bike. I've never had an overheating problem. The bike is great for beginners, it's way forgiving of mistakes, but is still a lot of fun for experienced riders also. Plus there's a ton of performance mods available, and since their such a common bike, parts are pretty cheap for them. I'd recomend the 400ex over the z400 and clones. There all good bikes though.
