Default blaster 34mm carb jetting

Im having troubles getting the air screw and pilot jet right on this new carb.
Its a 34mm mikuni, i have a 340 main jet, needle clip at the 3rd position, and
i just cant seem to get the idle and pilot right. i had a 35 pilot and it ran really good
but too lean off idle. So i put a 40 in it and its acting leaner like if its just sitting
there idling, and i crack the throttle open like 1/8 way it hesitates and bogs before it revs.
i cant seem to get the airscrew to make any difference, i have expeierience in this, I've
rejetted many bikes but this is leaving me puzzled. so HELP please!

Maybe your going the wrong way on the pilot. Are you confusing a lean hesitation with a rich bog? 1 40 is fairly large for a blaster, even tho its a 34mm.

I found out my problem, one thing BOTH the main and pilot are too small for that carb.
and the person i got it from before "said" they did a topend, i HIGHLY doubt it with a comp
test showing only 70 psi! the cyl was bad, piston really bad, so its getting bored and honed
right now and its gonna have to be a .040 over. a 45 pilot and 340-360 main is right for
a 34mm on a blaster thats piped. so im gonna go 360 main and 45 pilot, richen the needle
and airscrew for breakin. Then ill lean it out to perfection, then go one size bigger on the main for security.
That sounds crazy rich for the blaster, but its getting a heck of a lot more air too with that big carb, and id rather run it rich then lean for saftey.

If you haven't taken the top end apart yet............do a leak down test on it to make sure the rest of the seals are in good condition.
