it's porting the inside of the intake to increase what can enter and the polsih part smooths out all the rough edges so there's an even flow and better mixture of air/fuel

Generally speaking a "port and polish" job refers to increasing the diameter of the exhaust and intake ports inside your cylinder. By increasing the size of the ports, more fuel can enter the cylinder, and more exhaust can exit. Typically you accompany a port job with a top-end rebuild, carb and intake adjustments, and a new pipe, depending on what you already have. The idea is to create more power in the cylinder and allow the excess gasses created by the increase in fuel to escape faster, allowing for a faster combustion process.

HP gains depend on the port job, which, in turn depends upon who ports your cylinder. I suggest talking to some local shops. Quad Central is in Vegas, not too far away. Or try one of the shops out in California like Yoshi. Baldwin Motorsports, here in Ohio, builds fast engines. Baldwin does Tim Farr's motor. Here's the number; 1-440-224-2734, or try the website, baldwinmotorsports.com.
