Raptor Running again.. but sputters and hiccups
#1
I finally got my Raptor running. Replaced rod, ported the head, got a Stage I cam, and 12:1 high comp piston. The thing starts now and runs for a few seconds then dies. I tried riding it and it sputters, surges, seems like it misfires and basically runs like crap.
I'm thinking two things. Carb of valves out of adjustment. Any ideas?
Thanks in adavance.

A bud of mine disagrees... says it sounds like a cam tooth is retarded or advanced. I really would hate tearing into the head only to find it's not the problem. It happens to break up right in the mid-range. I did install a Yoshiumura pipe.... and I'm running no airbox lid.

FYI, not trying to waste your time but you may wanna check your parking brake plug connector. It can and will come out of it's socket sometimes making the bike bounce off the rev limiter and such.

If you have had your motor apart you may want to check and see if the carbs are fully seated on the boots.I had a similar situation and that was the problem. The carb boots are sometimes overlooked because it would seem so obvious if they are not seated but upon close inspection you may find that they are not.

if you ported the head, changed cams, and hi comp piston, your going to want to rejet, at least up 2 sizes.

Thanks guys I will check every option. It does sound like it is bouncing off the rev limiter...Thanks for all responding. I got a trip to silver Lake Michigan and I don't want to miss out.

Follow the wires down from your clutch/pBrake lever. There should be two of them that go down behind the radiator. One has a dual plug connector and one has two seperate connectors. I cant remember which one belongs to the p brake, just check them both. The other one is for your clutch, it tells the quad not to start in gear without the clutch pulled.
