i have an 2004 raptor that i love. it is great! but i have one problem. it is getting hard to shift into 2nd from 1st. going from 3rd to 2nd is fine as far as i can tell. what is the problem? is just a shift fork or something or is the whole trannie going?

how hard can it be? I think it's just kind of natural. I might be wrong but my dad has an 01 raptor that i ride a lot and it just has always been that way. I don't think your tranny is going because i believe that all the gears would be that way. It seems that it all gos out all at once not slowly and keep in mind we havn't had any tranny problems at all.

it isnt the oil. i just changed it and its still doing the same thing. i was using 5w-30(i believe) for the winter and i just changed it to 20w-40 for the summer. has anyone else had this problem?

Ever thought of putting some grease on the area where the gear lever swivels on? It was not designed to run dry.
The swivel point is attached to your left foot peg. With great difficulty, remove the clip that hold the shifter in place. Next, remove the nut that hold the shifter to the sector shaft and then pull the whole shifter out of there. Clean the shifter and swivel area properly. Then put some grease on swivel areas, slip it back on, tighten the nut on the shaft and low and behold it shift real slick again.
The less grease or the more dirt that gets in there and the tighter it gets. It's that simple. Guys you need to do some maintenance on these bike, not just change the oil and filters.
If you really want to, get yourself a power shifter from Pro Design and that problem goes away for ever.
