Raptor Starter??
#1
My raptor sometimes makes a funny clank noise when Trying to start it. Is the starter going out, I hear many people say that the starters go out on they things, Whats the best way to check it??

It typically is not the starter going out, it is the throw-out bearing that takes a crap. You like many will have to replace the stocker with an L&A One Way bearing assembly. You can get it from ripper racing and the instructions found at raptortranny.com are excellent.
You will know when to replace this assembly when the throw out bearing will not turn the motor over. If you are getting odd sounds and it is increasingly difficult to turn the motor over (you have a good battery is the assumption) then you are probably on your way to this $190 fix.
Good luck.

Everytime a Raptor turns off the motor will kick back and when this happens it puts stress on the starter. The only way to keep this from happening would be to turn the quad off on a roll. Yamaha engineering flaw design.
