Default Raptor Axle nut and aftermarket nut question.

Ok, I know on a 2004 raptor 660 there are two nuts, the first on is the one with the set screws. You loosen the set screws then you take a 50mm wrench and get both nuts off... Right? Now I heard that the axcliber axle comes with a new locking nut that replaces the other two.. How does this one work. When I saw a picture of it, it had no wrench pattern on top of it to be able to tighten it..? Do you just screw it by hand and then put the set screws in?

MIke.

Its a locking nut, a single nut with an inner thread. To my knowledge they do not come with the axle but must be purchased separately. They and others like them are vastly superior to the stock setup.

Alright.... I understand the inner thread but when you look at the picture, you can tell its round on the out side, not a Hex pattern, so how do you tighten it down? (the LSR aftermarket ones)

I havent used the LSR unit, but if its only going hand tight there is no way in hell I'd be installing one on my axle.

The durablue unit that I have installed has a hex design and I use a 24" pipe wrench and all the lead in my pants. Then I put in the set screw, ride the quad for a few mintues, remove the set screw, retorque, and then put the set screw back. I check it periodically as well.

Look at it, how do you tighten it?? It has no exterior hex pattern.

I see threads on the inside, looks to me like there is a way. Its going to have to be more than hand tight, the lock bolts can only hold it in place not hug the axle tight to the carrier.
