2001 Raptor Tranny
#1
I am thinking about buying a 2001 raptor for $2400 from my future brother in law. I have heard about tranny problems, and if it happens to every one, or just unlucky machines. I am borrowing it it for a few weekes to try it out, and it shifts fine and is a good runner. Just wondering if i should worry about it, and how much it cost to replace the tranny? Thank you

I think its like around 1000 bucks or maybe 800. From what I rmemeber a while back... to replace it.
Just look for a 2002 and up, you will be better off, and won't have to worry about any of the tranny BS. ITs worth the little extra.
MIke.

yes the tranny is a slight problem, if you don't want to race it seriously than the tranny might be ok. To reduce the cost of the tranny fix just do the work your self and save time and money. check out here raptortranny.com or something like that. great guys and very knowlagable.

IF it goes, the 2ed gear breaks, raptortranny.com sells kits for 350$ so if it does go, it upgrades the whole tranny to 02+ specs. DEFINATLY go with the raptor, the 400ex is patheticly slow compared to the 660.

I was talking to the guy who owns the raptor and he might go down to 2000. It will need new axle bearings, new chain.Everyhting else is good on it. Is that a good price, or should i save an extra grand for a 400ex.

about 3/4 into the 01 year yamaha fixed the problem with the dog ear on the shift drum. The problem wasnt the cost of the gear and shift drum. It was the cost of the entire transmision, because when second went it exploded into the other gears and you were stuck with a piece of junk.
