2006 Wolverine 450
#73
I , like 90% of everyone on here, am disappointed. I owned a 96 Wolv for a few years and only gave it up to get something with more power. When I saw this "thing" posted, I had big hopes. Since then, well, not so big anymore. Why couldn't Yamaha have used the same motor, and front drive system from the wr450 2trac, in a frame like the yfz450 and had a 4wd quad that would have beaten any and all other 4wd's out there? They have the parts! It would be basicly a 450 but alittle heavier, geared just alittle lower, and 4wd!!! NOW THAT IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!

Thankyou, I hope this new wolverine Flops right over on its face, or handlebars however you want to take it. I am beyond disapointed I am angered by it. I dont care they are making it but to call it a wolverine is a discrace to the name Ive held so close. I dont think ill ever buy a yamaha again unless its a banshee which they will be discontinuing because they dont have the ***** to put some R&D into the two stroke engines. Bombardier did it with the etec evinrudes and the snowmobiles and jetskis. Cant say again how disapointed I am. WEAK MOVE yamaha. I really hope it fails miserably and they realize how dumb they were. But im sure it wont and a bunch of totally unsavy new ATVers will buy them.

Damn, was that what I was trying to say
Especially liked this part "but In one swift movement Ive lost a lot of respect for whatever crackheads they have running their ATV division."
Lets all remember that the Wolverine was a 4x4 that was designed from a sport quad (what the warrior was when this all started) and shared most of the attributes of it plus added the added traction and abilites of being a 4x4. It may not be the fastest, or have the largest engine, but what it did have was very unique to itself in that is was a smaller more nimble, and lighter 4x4 that offered much of the handling and trail riding abilites of its 2x4 sister the warrior. That is very different than any other util 4x4 I have ridden, and though not for everyone it did offer a very nice nitch in the market for those who needed a 4x4 that handled more like a sport than a tank.
And though I never owned one myself ( have rode more than one lol) I am deff "with you" on your thoughts.

All of us wolverine owners have been talking about the amazing posibility of yamaha stepping it up and making a 450 wolverine. I was on the website and read yamaha Wolverine 450 4x4 and practically had to change my underwear. When I clicked and began to read and view the beast I quickly entered a state of dismay. The wolverine. With an AUTOMATIC TRANNY and FLOORBOARDS. If the Wolverine 350 is as beautiful as a 67 fastback mustang with a 427 then the Wolverine 450 is as crappy as a Mustang II with a V6 they made in the gas crisis of the 70s. and then to top it off RAPTOR LIKE PLASTICS. Why the F|_|ck DO THEY THINK WE ALL WANT OUR QUADS TO LOOK LIKE RAPTOR. I used to think yamaha had ***** for not stopping the banshee in the 80s/90s and building great machines but In one swift movement Ive lost a lot of respect for whatever crackheads they have running their ATV division. I will surely be investing in a 446 stroker kit way before I would think of a Wolverine 450. If I got one for free I would sell it without riding it because its a discrace to everything the Wolverine stands for. Are you faithful Wolvy 350 owners with me? This isnt a Wolverine its a bigbear with Fugly "race like" plastics and friggin floorboards. Im awed beyond what words can describe. Somebody please tell me this is all a bad dream.

No problem, and was only being honest about my thoughts.
One thing to keep in mind that may actually make a difference down the road is that people from the mfg's do read the various sport related forums, and with all the similar opinions and disapointments (and even a few seriously pissed off previous wolvy owners) the message would seem pretty clear.
Now if this new model is a success based on sales alone I doubt it would be dropped from the line up, but if it falls on its face (and that wouldnt suprize me at all since there are so many 400-500cc auto 4x4's etc with a following) I think this input may have an impact on the design of any future wolvy unless the people running Yamaha NA are seriously crack heads as you mentioned
Then again if theres room for a zillion 4x4 400's in a line up why not add what seems to be the model so many "really" wanted anyhow.

I really didn't want an SRA Kodiak before, and I certainly don't want one with bad fender protection now. Not that they are bad bikes, just not what I want.
The new Wolv is $5999, for $200 more you can get an IRS Kodiak 450 with diff lock and full fender protection. The 450 Wolv won't ride any better or be much faster than what I have now. To me it's a no brainer.
I so much wanted a new updated Wolv that would knock my socks off. Woulda been the first guy in line. Looks like the old nail is gonna be around a little longer.

Just talked to my local Yamaha dealer today, explained to them how I and all of you feel about the "new" Wolverine, and believe it or not, they TOTALLY agreed, in fact, they said they did NOT intend to order any of the new Wolverines, they felt so strongly about it !!! Maybe if we all can talk to our dealers, and send a financial message to Yamaha - NO ONE WANTS THIS WOLVERINE ABORTION , they might consider rethinking this "new" model.
