banshee not firing, help!!!!
#1
i just bought a redone 89 banshee. its not firing,
ive checked the on/off switch and jumpered it and nothing changed. i grounded the plugs and no fire at the plugs while kicking it. i need some additional pointers please! the tors system isnt being used because the wires are cut at the carbs. once in a while it will fire and run but when you cut it off it will not fire. what is the most frequent failing item and what do i check and in what order? please help and thanks guys.

My best advice is to get a manual and trouble shoot from there. Electrical problems like that can be a pain. You need to start checking for spark/current back from the plug wire towards the magneto. Could be a coil, CDI, ETC. Electrical gremlins are my worst area so I go step by step in the manuals. Good luck.

Hey Shock, I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I havn't gone far into the trouble shooting, but here's what I've done, that I didn't hear you mention, merely a step further.
Your spark plug cap will unscrew from the wire. Take both out, get someone to hold the open end of the wire about 6mm from the head bolt, and you kick it over. If a blue spark comes from the wire, that means your spark plug cap is faulty.
Hope that helps some. Keep me posted.

If it will fire but puke out like it's flooding then it's the plugs themselves. If they get the slightest bit of carbon on them, change them. Try that out and if it works, buy a hotter plug NGK B7ES. For two days my Banshee did that, I noticed some carbon-oil on my plugs I'd clean them up, throw them back in, it'd fire up. Then cut out. I thought my carb was going wacky. Then out of the clear blue sky I bought new plugs and it fired up and ran like a beast. Banshee's are common for this. I buy 2 sets at a time. When the bike starts running like crap I change plugs and boom. I even tried cleaning the plugs after I ride but it only stretches the plugs a day or two passed the norm. Try new plugs, NGK B8ES is the normal plug for it. You won't be dissappointed!!
