Do I need Yamaha tappet wrech for valve adj?

Hi there, do I need to order the tool from my local dealer to adjust my valves? I have a 2000 Warrior. I checked in the archives and could not find anything about the tool. I think one person said they used a feeler guage and needle nose pliers?
Would you suggest buying the tool, or just getting a specific size in craftsman?

Im not positive about the sizes, but sears has what you need. The locknut is probably 8 or 10 mm, and the adjusting stud is probably 3 or 4 mm. You might even be able to get a small cresant wrench in there.
The only odd thing, is the adjusting stud is 4 sided ( square), so you need to use the open end of the wrench, the box end wont work..but its not a big deal, once the locking nut is loose, the stud will move just with finger pressure.

I see your in Minn... What part?
So I called the dealer and was quoted $156 for the valves. They wanted $234 + parts for a full tune up. Since I already have the plasic off, I might as well do it myself. I need to order a coupple of things from the dealer anyhow, so if the tool if only a coupple bucks I'll probably grab it. I should have a 8 to 10 mm wrench for the lock nut...
I just bought the machine and it's a 2000. I figure I'll do the valves, clean and lube the chain (clearance as well), grease everything, an oil change, and be ready to rock.

MotionPro sells an entire set that works for various bikes/quads. You really don't need it though. You can't torque to proper values though using the MotionPro set. Not sure about the factory tools.

I just talked to the guy at the shop again, and he said it's a good idea to have that tool since you need to hold that bold to loosen the lock-nut. He said there is not much room to move around in there... I'll probably just buy the thing it sounds like.
