Default Wood Ramp for jumping/freestyle?

Has anyone ever built a ramp out of wood and had it actually be good and strong?

Steel is way expensive and i thought i would entertain the idea of wood. Then again, i dont want the thing to be a piece of crap either.

thanks

Dude just to be competely honest I suggest keeping to this: (BMX & MT.Bikes = Wood Ramps & Dirt) (ATVs & DirtBikes = Dirt Ramps or Very expensive metal ramps) wood might work for a little bit but termites, weathering, and structural weaknesses make wood a very bad idea over the long haul

I can understand you wanting to save $$$, but don't do it at the expense of your life.

Pony-up the jack if you want to do it right. The last thing you want is to have a ramp break on you while on your Raptor!

Just goto steel yards and purchase their junk pipe and what not. It might look scrappy at first but put some paint on it and it'll do it's job.

I don't/won't trust wood ramps, the weight of a quad hitting it would scare me.
