2006 Raptor 700 vs 2006 YFZ 450
Well someone had to start the topic first...
I was wanting to get a newer quad anyways next year. Looks like we may have some serious competition. I do wonder how the new raptor will perform against the extra 10cc on the 450. But ther mere fact that they made the 450 a lot more comfortable for dunes, trails is a huge plus.
I also wonder how the raptor's identical diplacement will handle against the potent raptor 686's out there.
I'm up for discussion...

I am more interested in the handling characteristics... Does anyone know if we are talking cosmetic changes to the old 660, or have they re-tooled the frame to be more like the YZ450F? I suspect the fuel injection and increased engine size will mean a slight improvement over the old model 660.. but more important than that, I want to know if they have fixed the high center of gravity induced tippy feeling that my 660 has.
I'll admit the only reason I don't own the 450 is because it does not have reverse.... If this is the answer to our prayers, I need to start saving my Sheckels... I have to have reverse with a bumb leg.
I have a warrior and an early model Rap... and I like the handling of my Warrior much better.... and it gets ridden more than the 660 because of it. Of course I spend most of my time on the Rubicon these days, but that is unfair because I use it working around the homestead.

I think the 700 is going to be a more complete package, now that it's wider and a little lower, it should handle pretty nice.
I was reading about the yfz in dirtwheels and they said that Yamaha is working on a full trail version that will have wider gear ratios and a reverse gear.

I doubt you can notice the yfz's extra 10 cc. It might make your lap times go down 0.03 hundredths of a second, maybe. Raptor700 is wider, and lower than 660r, but wont handle as well as yfz, 50 pounds more, radiator up high....Look at what these machines are designed for. Yfz mx racing {20 min motos} , 700r, dunes and trails. {all day riding }. People who want to seriously race will want yfz, people who want to spend multiple hours in the seat, will want raptor............My guess is raptor will run strait up with yfz in a strait line. Put yfz and 700r on a mx track and raptor gets beat.............I wonder how long before yfz gets efi???
