2001 Raptor Questions
I found a 2001 Raptor for sale for $2450. First of all, is that suspiciously low? I've heard about the tranny problems as well. I did a search on here and read that they corrected the problem somewhere along the production line that year...does anybody know of a serial number around when that happened? Also, I read about an upgrade kit for about $350. How easy of an install is this kit? Thanks for any help!

Actually, that price seems kind of high for a 01 Raptor, but it depends on what it has on it and what has been done to it. Yamaha didn't fix the tranny problem until 02 and even some of them went bad. If this Raptor has 02 gears and it shifts smooth, then the tranny should be ok. If it has 01 gears in it, you can subtract $1,000 from the price because that is what it is going to cost when it goes out. Because of the history on the 01, I wouldn't pay more than $2,000 for a stock Raptor even if it was running and appeared to be in excellant shape.

hmmm ..... for an 01 Raptor660 it will cost u easily over a $1K to upgrade the tranny gears, and around $800 to replace starter one way clutch/bearing with both repairs parts and labor. it might also need fresh suspension and/or axle bearings since it is a 4 year old quad.

dude, use your own judgement.
Ive heard of all the problems and such, but me and none of my friends have had the one way or tranny problems.
use your best judgement and go for it, sounds good to me.
i bought mine for 2700 and have modded it and rode almost 600 miles yet this summer and no signs of giving up.
just take care of it and keep maintanance up.
im sure this opinion of mine is worthy of arguement though, but use your own judgement.
