What do I look for when buying a used Raptor?
Alot of times you can tell alot about a machine just by looking at all the rest of his/her stuff. If it looks sharp and they live in a run down shack with 28 cars in the driveway with washers and dryers all over the place.....it prolly aint a good buy.
-check the fluids
-check the radiator for leaks, cases for leaks, and anything else leaking.
-Check front suspension to make sure things arent bent or damaged
-check rims for dents or wobbles, and also roll it and watch the rear axle and rims for axle to be bent.
-check chain wear
-take it for a ride and run it through the gears fast and slow.....make sure it feels right shifting and driving.
-take a look at the plastics..but dont judge too harsh...yamaha plastics get white creases very easily in them.
-check tire wear
-another thing to check, is the air filter. normally a person will get the thing washed up nice but forget to clean the filter, if the plastics are nice and the filter is caked in sand......it probably wasnt cared for as well as you should.
-check oil, ask when he changed it, and watch for shavings on the dipstick.
-finally, lay down and check the bottom of the frame/bellypan.....normally it will be scratched up from grass, sand and gravel, but look for large cracks or dings, if the frame is cracked NO WAY!
Basically this is every single thing to check....not that it has to be checked though. Some people are **** about things.
Just use commen sense and good judgement and youll be fine.
good luck.....if its good get it, youll love the raptor man.
