Raptor front shocks junk-need advise on replacement.
#1
The stockers are finally dead, they beat me up even at a slow trail speed! I did a search on WORKS shocks. Seems like there was as much bad as good on them. I do not race, but my riding buddy does and I like to "try" to keep up with him. I ride mainly wooded trails/off-road parks here in Iowa and Wisconsin. I want something that gives me a good ride and does not fade like the stockers. With my stock units, the harder I ride the more it hurts!
Problem is, I don't want to spend more then $400 for the pair. Looks like I am limited to Works double-rate without rezs "Stealers" or maybe the cheapest Elkas?? What should I do? Thanks.

Go on eBay and see if you can find some YFZ450 shocks, supposed to be a big improvement over stock, or you may find some good aftermarket replacements there as well. You might get lucky and pick some up for a couple hundred bucks.

Yeah, try the YFZ shocks. Quality units that can be had fairly cheap. They need a bit of work to fit up properly, but not much. The extra weight of the Rappy is supposed to utilize the shocks better=better ride than on the YFZ.

I placed a set of Works Triple rez on my front Raptor and it was like night and day. I have never knew that shocks made that much of a difference!!!! Riding whoops with those are a piece of cake now.

I went with the YFZ Shocks and they are nice. I have not jumped it yet but it sits a little lower and you can adjust rebound and compression. The stockers would fade rapidly on the MX track and in a lap or two bottom out with ease. I can't wait to really put them through the ringer and see how much air they can handle. And anyone running the YFZ's on their Raptor what is a good baseline setting on the Comp. and Rebound?

I just put Works Steelers on my '01. Got a decent price on them at the local yami dealer. Good replacement for the worn out stock shocks. I ride trails only so I don't jump much at all and these work great for me. I looked into the YFZ fronts, but they seemed to be just about as expensive as what I ended up paying for the Works shocks. I did look on Ebay, but found it too big of a pain to trust someone to send me what the pictures showed. Too easy for someone to just take a picture of good shocks and sell crap ones. Plus the parts guy gives me a discount since I have bought 2 quads and a lot of parts for my old dirt bike from them.

I have heard of the YFZ shock swap. Seems to me the YFZ rode kinda stiff you my taste but like was already said, seems to work good on a Raptor? The 06 YFZ are said to have softer valving and daul rate springs. Maybe I can land a pair of those.
Anyone else have any input here? Thanks.
