Is a raptor 700 worth it?
#1
I have an 03 660R (CT full exhaust, K&N, jetted, ITP holeshots on the way) I am happy with the Raptor. I can have lots of fun on it and I'm not afraid of getting it dirty like I am with my pretty Banshee. I'm considering a 700R.
1) Will it really be that much better than a 660? (will the 686 from the factory be like a 686s that stomp other quads in the videos I've seen?)
2) Fuel injection sounds dangerous. (A problem with a FI system would probably be very expensive to fix, right?)
3) We all know about the potential for first year bugs (Is waiting for the 2007 model the way to go?)
Any input?

The 686 form factory wont be as powerful as the aftermarket 686's IMO, due to compression and other stuff that kick in. I really don't have any experience with fuel injection on quads, but from what I have heard this setup was tested for 2 years to be exact, that's just a rumor though. Again this 2007 Raptor 700R may be a like the 2001 raptor 660r, nothing but problems. It will have some problems, because no quad will probaly ever come out perfect, but those problems probaly will be small.

no quad is problem free, thats a given. However with yamaha having the problems they did with the first rappy i think they were extra careful not to overlook any problems or potential problems.
I was worried about sucking dirt/dust and grime on my trail rides, but then i thought about it and i should be the one dustin them out.

i dont see any problems with the new raptors, considering its basically the same exact motor as before, just a new head, design. 686 and FI. the bottom end didnt change at all.

honestly i highly doubt it will be a modded raptor due to it being restricted and the 660r's that are modded been opened up and letting it breathe so keep your 660r and you'll be fine they are having a few minor issues on the 700r but i would wait too later to see how they perform from a customer's point of view...

Yammrap...You can build a aftermarket 686 for a quarter of the price of the new 700 and go much faster. I personally don't think the Raptor 700 is worth that kind of money. And I would hold out till the 2007 model if I were to get one. Just My Opinion.

Very well said...I seriously doubt the 700 will be anywhere close to a modded 686 that is done right.
