Default 2005 Wolverine 4X4...

I had some questions about the 2005 Wolverine... I'm getting my first quad, and the terrain around my house is sort of rough. It's not bad, I can get around most of it on my riding lawn mower, except for a few large bumps. Anyway, I was thinking of either getting one of these, or a 2005 Honda Rancher 4x4... Now one of my questions is, does the Wolverine shift automatically? I'm not too familiar with the terms on the specs, so could someone just put it out in plain English, do I shift manually, or does it shift automatically? I would really prefer a manual, so the quad doesn't change gears when I'm going uphill and throw me. Anyway, is the Wolverine a good quad for a beginner? I've rode quite a few quads before, like my uncle's Suzuki Eiger 400... but never a sport quad before. Do they handle pretty much like a utility quad? I'm 13, about 5' 5 and between 125-134 lbs, but I need a quad that my dad can ride comfortably too, so the 348cc seems like a good size. If I have any more questions, I'll add them here.

wolverines are nice quads. when i was looking for a quad i test drove one and was pleased with how it rode it handled more like a sport quad then a utility and it didnt have the body roll of some utilitys. i would have gone witha wolvie becuase of it being sporty and 4X4 but it was out of my price range and hard to find used around my place. it would be a good begginer quad. and it is a semi auto. you dont have to use a clutch but you still have to change gears

I just thought of some more questions. Can the Wolverine basically do everything sport and utility quads can do? And what if I can't currently afford both the bike and the 424 Mod for it, should I still get the bike, or get a Rancher? My Dad says we're going to probably do some trail riding, is it a reliable machine that isn't prone to breakdowns?

I've had my 95 Wolverine since I bought it new, the engine is bulletproof, basically a Warrior motor with an auto clutch and a front output shaft. I've put a few thousand miles on mine, rough trails, mud/water up to the fenders, jumped it like a sport quad, rode dunes and gravel pits, pulled a mower, dragged logs and deer, even motocross raced it once !!.The only difference from the 95 is they went to a cv type carb versus the flat slide Mikuni like the Warrior that was only used on the 95 Wolverine. All Warrior engine mods work on the Wolverine, as well as pipes and filters,so mods are cheap and easy.Handles like a big sport quad, even in full time 4wd, I could slide the corners easy, but now with the 424, the back end throws a lot more roost and powerslides are a snap. Top speed is 55 to 60, plenty fast for trails, and hill climbs are no problems. If you are looking for a good all around trail / work / play quad, it is a good choice, light ( for a 4x4 ) and easy on gas, with plenty of power for most things you do. The only reason I am still driving my Wolverine is there isn't another quad around that fits my needs and easily crosses the sport/ ute line that fits the bill for me ( that new 2006 "Wolverine" is a poor replacement, wouldn't even consider it ).
