the beartracker was just and 'update' of the timberwolf.....not a lot of difference....if anything was done it would have been an improvenment in the consumer eye........

its call extending the product life cycle......maximising there research and development cost of making the bike

maybe the image the timberwolf gave in the market place wasn't the greatest...ie. may have discovered to have a weakness....so they may have resolved the problem.....changing the name is like starting from a clean slate

Where did you hear that the Beartracker had less power than the Timberwolf?? Nothing could have less power than a Timberwolf. Actually, I recall that Yamaha said that they had improved low end power on the Beartracker when they introduced it.

The t-wolf was one of the industries top sellers. In fact, Honda came out w/the Recon just to capture some of that market. I had a 92 model and it cranked. It would hall 400lbs of hunters all day and not skip a beat. I paid $2900.00 for it out the door and sold it in 1998 for $2500.00. The Beartracker is basically the same bike, gobs of low end power.

diff. carb. and a diff. cam, which yamaha said gave the beartracker more hp,BUT, the timberwolf had more torque.
