I am trying to deceide what tires to put on a 04.5' Sportsman 700 and 05' 450 Kodiak? I am getting bigfoot kits with type 5 rims. We ride in the snow, rock, hard pack, power lines, and a little mud. I know the 589's are an awsome tire but ride a little rought. What are you thoughts on the purhase??

I'm trying to decide this same thing...I'll probably end up with 26" 589's on type 6 wheels. A buddy of mine got the XTR's (27s) on type 7 14" wheels and they look pretty good. I don't think I want to go that big.
I do a bit more mud/water riding than him so I think the deeper/more aggressive lugs will suit my needs better.
I decided on the type 6 over the 5's due to the clear coat issue. Over time (especially in mud/dirt) the clear coat will peal/pit and look like crap. The polished wheels can be well...polished to get any corrosion off.
If you don't do a lot of mudding...go with a less aggresive tread design. It will last longer and ride nicer.
I was wondering if anyone had the difference in weights between the wheel/tire combos (26 589s on type 6 vs. 27 XTRs on type 7)

I am staying with the clear coat typ e5 because I do snow ride during the winter and with the salt and weather there could be a problem with the pitting of the polished rims. My brother has 598's on a 2000' kodiak and the does ride rough on dirt rodes, real noticible. I thinking I don't want that ride all the time. I hear the lugs on the XTR's are about the same depth and they advertise the ride is much smoother then the 589's. The XTR's come in 12" sizes and the 14" is more for show and dirt rode riding... The 589's are great but I really don't hit to much mud in new hampshire... I heard the 589's will last longer then the XTR's but who knows?? I staying with 26" sizes on my 700 sportsman and the 450 kodiak.

Just for the diference in weight alone I personaly chose the Mud Lites for my Grizzly. The mud lite works better on rocks etc. because they are not as hard, as per say for traction in the mud 589's are a bit better, but just a very little bit. I'm now getting the mudlite radials as 75% of my riding is more dirt road and trail than mud.
