In a few months im gonna be buying a new atv and i have been planning on gettin a Z400, but i think im gonna go with the new raptor. But i have a few questions... Are Yamahas reliable like honda? And how are they in tight and sometimes muddy trails? Thats all i'll be riding pretty much. Is it better than the Z in the woods? I dont care about the speed. This may sound like a dumb question but would i beable to just idle around in low RPM's or would i have to keep them up?

it's MADE for trail riding.

 

I just sold my 02 raptor and purchased a 700R. My 660 had a full system yosh and k&n filter. With limited time on my new 700r, I can say that my new 700 has as much power, if not more, all the way through the entire band. The gearing seems perfect for trail riding, compared to my old raptor, which i made changes to. Keep in mind, my 700 is stock, and only has about 20 minutes on it. The front end is planted better, and the quad surges forward, instead of rearing back when you hit the throttle.

Gone is the tippy feeling, and the steering is precise. To bottom line if for you.... In my opinion, the new 700R is the best all around quad you can buy right now, especially if you spend most your time on trails, fire-roads, or dunes.

I put over 300 miles on mine in the 2 weekends since I bought it, most of it on trails. It is a great trail machine.
As far a power I out run a piped 660 on a stretch of dry lake bed and pulled away from every other "stock" machine on the ride.
It is a easier to handle power than the z400. It has quite a bit more low end torque.

 

If you can handle big power then its much better than a Z400 on the trails. It has an awesome power delivery for trail riding. Killer low and mid range! I only had mine out one time so far and if you like riding fast on tight trails and good at it, you'll love this machine............[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

Right about now there are great deals on any remaining Raptor 660r at the dealership. I remember last year they were going for about $5300.00 OTD. That's a sweet deal when, Z-400s were about $5800.00. You do the math & compare what your getting.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

that is a helluva deal, they should be cheaper now because of the 700r, but i may be wrong.

 

From what I've read, the '06 700R is an all new machine and tons better than the 660. You get what you pay for. I'd rather get the 700. It's not the YFZ450's changes this year which I think aren't good but not worth overlooking a good deal on an '04 or '05.
