There is more than who is just the fastest in a straight line,Over a long distance the ergos and handling of the 700 would probably make it a faster ride. The yfz is a great machine, but so is the 700 either way it is a good time to choose. I wouldn't want to ride a YFZ @ 12000 ft in the tight nasty mountains here, then again i wouldnt want to MX a 700.
If you want the fastest buy a older banshee and do a little work and you will beat most 4 strokes.

I raced a 700 with my 04 YFZ and didnt have any trouble at all beating it. WE raced 6 times 2 of them were up a small sand hill and 4 were down a short gravel road. The race was about 200 yards long. I even have the stock rear tires that are in very bad shape. That is not to say the 700 would not have cought up and passed on top end. I do run a 15 tooth front sprocket for more top speed, The GYTR air filter and no cover, cam mod and sparky out of stock pipe. So My YFZ is not stock, I have put about $45 into it.
