I have owned a Warrior since 87 and they are great quads. One problem you may encounter is that they like to go through batteries. I would recommend getting a battery tender if the quad is going to sit for any length of time. Another weak spot on alot of warriors is the upper motor mount. It attaches the head to the frame. I have gone through 3 of them before I did my motor swap. keep an eye on it and make sure all motor mount bolts are tightened regularly. Other than that, enjoy.

The Raptor 350 and Warrior have identical motors. The Raptor 350 is slightly lighter, has a better exhaust and minor changes to the ergonomics in the rider compartment.

I wouldnt trade my warrior for just anything..He is right about the motor mounts, if your lil cousin is going to do alot of jumping, i would check them and the other mounts reguarly.I went ahead and built some motor mounts out of 1/4" steel and I havent had a problem since..One other thing, Yamaha must have never intended for the warrior to have any real impressive power, high performance mods are there but you have to search, and dont forget ...there is no rev limiter at all on the warrior...except for parking brake limiter..But he will love it im sure...

They're not bad for jumping, just a little nose heavy.

If he's doing any large jumps he's going to want after market suspension .. the Warrior is quite heavy for what it is, and comes down with a bang on the soft stock shocks.

Well the thing about no rev limiter is not completely true - they do come with a rev limiter from the factory, but in stock form you can't hit the limiter without revving the motor so high that you float the valves. Rappy 350 isn't any more reliable than the warrior, but I hear a lot about how reliable the warrior is supposed to be. I must have gotten a lemon though, because since I bought mine last year all I have gotten done is replacing broken and worn out $hit. The stock shocks aren't all that bad for light mx if you're just playing around, but can be unforgiving if you make a mistake. They're not a top of the line quad, but they're pretty good all around and a lot of fun to ride.

Banshee shocks fit the Warrior both front and rear. The front shocks on the Banshee are a bit longer and alot stiffer so it stiffens up the front nicely. The rear Banshee shock fits perfectly and seems alot better. I have a Banshee rear shock on my wifes Warrior and she noticed a difference instantly.

^^

Your wife's warrior looks sweet. You'd never say it was an 87, that's for damn sure!
