Default Changing the oil

Just my 10c worth but 'most' dealers and advice/help are about as useful as a chocloate teapot... "bring it in and we'll take a look at it" for a min. labor charge of $35 just for staring at it across the room! Don't get me wrong there are 'exceptions' out there...

Footnote: In Europe at VW Bug meets for entertainment they drain down an old engine completely of oil and then proceed to run it at full throttle in a steel protective cage until it detonates, you'd be surprised at how long some run b4 finally grenading!!! I'm NOT advocating same for your engines obviously...

Grapestomper, you were kind of hard on him in your first post on this thread. I have had to ask questions on here that some would think were idiotic. I was fortunate that nobody gave it to me too bad. For example, I screwed around with my carbs, without knowing what I was doing. Happarap and some others gave me both ideas and instructions. I now have my quad running 100%, thanks to those guys. Instead of helping, they could have ripped on me. They didn't. They now have my respect and loyalty.
Anyone crying from my tear-jerking story yet?
Anyway, I hope you get my point. Not trying take sides, talk crap or anything. Just my 2cents.
Have a nice day.

Excuse me, I have to clarify and apologise. I am no child, dont deserve that kind of treatment and, if you
read your replies I do believe that you, in fact were directing those unnecessary insults to
me. I am sorry for all of my "potty mouth" but, if some person who doesn’t know every
detail of the scenario, starts giving you unnecessary scarcasm and writes 2 replies of
torment, and treated you like you are a child, I would hope that you, in all normality
would be heated also. Thank you fahq, thumperrider, and everyone else for taking time to reply/be patient with, my ignorancy, Once again I apologise to grapestomper and the others that I went off on and just hope that my motor is okay.

Accepted, and I do admit after re-reading my tyrade it was a little over the top in the first reply. I apologize for seeming like I was directing it at you. And your reply that it was a mechanic

I really did want to hammer home, and did so on the second reply, that there are a LOT of youngsters on here... who may have been lead to believe that draining the oil with a running ( or even turning it over with the plug wire disconnected) is a BAD, NO FOOLISH idea.

I am glad someone told you that way of draining the oil is wrong, and hope there is no damage to your engine from past oil changes.

Allen
