As for handling - ATV actions test of the raptor vs. Ex Ended in the Raptor turning out better times on a "super tight" MX track. They were PRO riders, and said the Raptor would DEFINITELY beat it by more, on a Pro course, because they are more open than the tight test track they used. Sounds like even Pro riders say it handles great.

They also said the 400ex handles a little better.I gotta give it to yamaha for building a quad that handles almost as good as a honda.

This is just my 2 cents, but if you don't need reverse, stick with the 400EX, and ride it stock for 6 months, then spend the extra geech you saved on the Raptor, to put a nice pipe, jet kit, and K&N Filter on it, you'll be plenty happy with it. I like the Raptor a lot, but I liked my 400EX also. Both Really nice bikes. The only problems I have with my Raptor is keeping the front wheels on the ground when accelerating, not cornering.

I can understand the dealer not letting you test drive the Raptor though, they are in premium demand, and he probably doesn't want the head ache of someone buying the machine, blowing it up, and blaming the test drivers........

You might even consider buying a used 400EX, that way you can save major bucks. 2000 Stock 400EX's are selling for like 3800 here, so that's a decent chunk of change to save, for say, a 440 Kit, a Pipe, Skids, Tires, Nerfs, Bars, Clutch upgrade's...............

Wait, call me, and I'll help you spend the money! I"m really good at it......Just ask my wife! (Three Four Wheelers in 13 months)

why ask a question like that in the yamaha forum. Everyone will say the same thing raptor. Go to the honda forum and everyone will tell you to get the 400ex.

Since the Raptor is more powerful, the riders were probably carrying more speed into the corners, and of course, making it tougher getting through the corner. It makes sense to ride both before making judgements and giving advise.

Well most people were really sincere in their answers. That's what I was hoping for.

I went to see what the yam dealer had in stock and they were out of raptors On the other hand I found a 400ex 2000 with 2 thankfull used(sowroom condition) it has a procicuit pipe, skids and a twist throttle. the quad is impeccable NOT A SCRATCH The guy is asking $4700 but I am hoping to lower the price down to at least $4400. What do you guys think???

I agree with NJ66ORAPTOR.I rode my old 400ex that I sold to my buddie and after one quick lap gave it right back to him.It felt like I was riding a 300ex.I truly love the way the Raptor sits up a little higher and the suspention is like a Catalac.Plus add a 660 and reverse and there you have it,Thr truly badest quad ever.Go bye a 400ex but someday when you finally get to ride the Yamaha beast youll be PISSED.Dont even listen to 86atc250r and BigCrashChris, the Raptor handles just as good as the 400ex in any riding condition. The honda riders just cant admit theres a new king of the hill. The ONLY reason I would say to go with the 400ex is if you wanted to save some money and bye a used one.Good luck on whatever you bye.

I went to test drive the 2 tankfull old 400ex. NIIIICE. There was a little dirt trail behind his house(much better than the dealers driveway). There is only one thing though, the guy wont go down on the price. I told him I'd call him on monday to tell him if I'll buy it or not. If he still doesn't want to go down on the price then...I'm back at square one.

PS:Still want to testdrive a raptor
