tripple rate YFZ 450 springs???
#1
I heard Works has a tripple rate spring kit for the YFZ front shocks, has anyone put these on their quad yet?? I have the YFZ's on my raptor and want to beef them up with a gold valve implant and change the springs at the same time, then get some +2+1 A-Arms. Then do a gold valve implant on the stock rear shock ( for my weight of course). Anyway looking to see if I can get some feed back on how tripple rates feel? I use it for desert racing.

just talked to Works and they are still developing the tripple rate spring replacement for the stock YFZ shock, it should be available in 4 to 6 weeks and cost around $200.00. I will buy it as soon as it comes out and put them on my shocks which are on a raptor, and also get them revalved with race tech gold valves. I spent $200 for the shocks + $200 for the springs + however much the re-valve costs maybe around 250. I guess this is getting more expensive than I thought, oh well we will see if it's worth it or if I should spend a little more to get a whole new aftermarket shock???

If you're going to spend the money on A-arms, buy shocks that match the A-arms. The way you're approaching this, you're only going to save yourself a few pennies and possibly wind up with something that's not as good as it should be.
If you're going to replace the front end of your ATV, you might as well do it right. Then again, I see you have an older machine. Maybe you should just upgrade to one of the new machines that handle better right out of the crate.

The YFZ's shocks are far from "typical OEM crap" but in warwgn's case, I think you should buy some aftermarket shocks designed to do what you want from the start rather than putting all that money into what you have. Once you get the new ones all set up, turn around and sell what you are running now. If you weren't looking for the revalve and longer arms, then $200.00 for new springs would be money well spent. Actuallly, I don't race, so I might look into this for my own quad.

Are they as good as a set of top of the line Elkas-no. But they are far from"typical OEM crap" Unless you are racing a modified class, or are really particular, there is no need to replace the YFZ stockers.

It's all about money. I dont have the cash to throw down all at once to get a set of Elkas or Ohlins but I need better than stock suspension. I got hooked up on the YFZ stockers and didnt have to pay all at once and they are way better than stock rappy shocks, it widened my front end and lowered it at the same time just by puting the shocks on. I use less pre-load and it still did not bottom out at the begining of the season, but I need to upgrade the shocks for 2 reasons. 1 they are gettin weaker from use, and 2 I bent the bottom of one of them during the last race along with folding up a set of a-arms so I have to fix that shock anyway so I might as well get them re-valved and the oil changed to full synthetic while I am at it. that will take care of the shocks and get them working better than they are now. The next step will be a set of Full Flight +2+1 arms, they are only $339.00 and have heim joints all around and have the shock mounts configured for stock length shocks so my YFZ's will work perfect. I may not need the tripple rate spring kit, but our team gets 50% off from works so I would like to get it just to make a better ride at slower speeds. As stated above I wont really be saving that much money but I wont be spending that much at once either so I can afford it for now. I plan on making this my practice bike in the future after I see how the Raptor 700 holds up and what aftermarket upgrades will be made available for it, then I will go in debt again and buy it, unless there is something better for they way I like to ride and what I consider comfortable.

I have Works triple rate steelers on my '91 Banshee.
They are not a " cheapo brand ".
I raced desert for a while and they did great.
I couldn't believe the difference over stock .
As far as the stock YFZ fronts , they are tweakable , and I will run them until I feel they are crap.
When they do go away , I will definitely again go with Works.
Is Gene still handling business?
