broken axle on 05 kodiak 450
#1
I remember reading on this forum about problems with the new IRS on the 05 kodiak 450. Well, I broke by right rear axle this weekend. The bearing inside the right rear hub exploded under normail riding conditions. The bike is only 8 months old. Is Yamaha aware of this problem, are they offering any help to fix? I checked out gorillia axles for my quad, they are little on the expensive side for me right. Any help you guys have would be great. Sorry for the spelling, typed this in hurry.

I haven't had a chance to take it apart yet. The boot/cv joint that is next to the wheel is in bad shape. The boot of course is torn, and the outer case of the bearing is missing, all the ball bearing fell out. I'm assuming I will need to order a new axle.

Talked with the guys at Gorillia Axle today. I need a CV rebuild kit. They sell both OEM and Gorillia heavy-duty rebuild kits. I've added a HMF pipe, jet kit, and clutch kit to my kodiak, all these mods together have really opened the possible power options of this bike, AND, the guys at Gorillia said Yamaha CV joints are not that strong to begin with, so I'm going with the HD rebuild kit.

You should be under warranty. If for some reason the damage is not covered check out Dan The CV Man
