Default Knocking Warrior Question

Hey Everyone, I don't have a warrior yet, but I am in the process of trying to find one to purchase. I am supposed to go out tomorrow morning and check on an 88 for sale.

There is a potential issue though. The owner claims that the engine started knocking recently. He doesn't know a lot about quads, but said that it knocks all the time, which seems like it would be in the top end, as this happens even when in neutral which should elimate the transmission - right?

A friend of mine mentioned that it could be a loose tappitt or that it could be a valve problem. I've also heard it could be something with the piston, then again could be the rod.

Has anyone had knocking in their Warriors and if so, what was the problem/fix? I definitely don't want to buy a lemon, but if I can get something for a reasonable price (any suggestions on this would be fantastic as well) it might not be a bad place to start. I'm new to riding, but everything I keep hearing about the warriors seems to make it the quad I want.

Thanks in advance,

pdxguy

PS: The guy says that everything else (ie. plastic, lights, etc) are all in great shape.

It's hard to say with out hearing it but if you cold get it cheap enough a guy could always need a parts bike.

Thanks, I figured that this would be one of those hard to say unless you can hear it things. Any suggestions or other ideas on what it may be that would do this? I agree extra parts bikes are great to have, but not really sure I can spend the extra money for a parts bike right now Part of me really wants to find a great bike that runs and is ready to go, but another part says, but it - if it'll save money.

well how much is he asking for it? if you think it's something that they may have to split the case i'd stay away from it.you can buy a good running warrior for around 2000 [around here] and most of the time it has a pipe and all that good stuff on it.

He's asking 900, but I wouldn't go that high.

your better off getting a newer bike. This way you spend a little more money, but have a nice running bike. Also Warriors you can find for cheap now.

Sounds like the newer bike would be the better option. There's another one for sale in the area that is a 1995. It has a new wisco piston/rings, gaskets, chain, battery, alum wheels and cobra pipe. They are looking for 2k. Probably worth checking into more so than the other one, right?

thanks,

pdxguy

PS. When looking for quads, specifically warriors, are there any key things of interest to watch for?

well when you buy a used bike..you buy a used bike.don't get me wrong used is good sometimes hell i bought mine used.in 4 years i've had to put a cdi and a starter on mine.i can't think of a major problem with a warrior other the the electrical.seems to give more trouble then anything.

look around the head where the exhaust comes out, sometimes they come loose and fall off... good luck in your search.
