It doesn't have to be a DVD camecorder, even if the camera doesn't come with a supplied USB cable you can buy hardware that will allow you to capture video to your pc and edit it.

I use a cheap JVC VHS-C camcorder and I capture the video to my computer using an analog video capture card. I wouldn't use anything too expensive. If you're like me, you'll get it dirty... Here is a video I made with my JVC and my computer (using Windows Movie Maker which is free);

GrizzlyAdams01,

That was a awesome video, great choice of tunes too. Is it possible to download this vid from somewhere? I would love to have a copy.

Personally, I would only consider digital video cameras. The ones that record to disk look nice, but I'm concerned they're a little to delicate like all DVD and CD mechanisms out there. Its easy for them to antiskip playback protection, but I doubt it's possible to have antiskip while recording to a disk.

Mine uses a memory card (nothing to skip)and is small enough to carry in my pocket any where. I carry it in it's case with small sandwitch zip lock bag. It is not the quality of a digital camcorder, but the pics are great. With the 512 card I can take over 350 pics or 30 minutes of video. We go on rides and then when we get back I load onto the laptop. The kids always want to see them selfs riding, racing and jumping.

Yeah, I have a still camera that does that. The video and sound quality is poor compared to regular video camera. It's definitely not good enough to watch on a TV screen.
