Default What should I get for a Raptor?

Ok, I am getting a 02 or 03 raptor and have about 500$ to spend on it after buying it. It has no internal engine work. My mechanic said that the internal engine on raptors suck, and that I should fix it up. Somethign about a crank shaft or rod or something that breaks and grinds up the inside or... w/e. What should I spend on my Raptor for the engine or anything that may break that I should replace? I know that 01 had tranny and carb issues, so thats why im staying away from 01s. Answers will b greatly appreciated! thx.

Btw.. from my last posts u might think my mechanic is stupid.. but I gave u the wrong info. He did not get a new carb, and he only needed to get new floats and cost me like 10$.. so dont think hes stupid. lol.. he works on Honda power eq and motorsports.

-edit- if u can.. gimmie a site with the thigns on it.. i already know about rockymountainatv.com

If it's stock with a pipe, you don't need to do anything else internal. The rods fail when you start changing the cam and piston.

A stock bore or 100.5mm wiseco 11:1 piston would wake up the raptor. I was running a 11:1 stock bore wiseco with a HC stage 1 for more than a yr with NO rod problems. I just upgraded to a HC stage 2, havent replaced the rod and Im hoping I dont mess anything up. I dont race so I wont give it a beating either, maybe thats why the rod has held up so far.

New one way - 300 + labor, that should take care of most of your budget.
