YFZ....06 vs 05?
I'm not sure how much faster it is than the 05. I'm sure it is probably a little bit faster, seeing as how it is a true 450 now.
As for what I would perfer, I would take the 06.
I would take the 06 due to the several improvements that made on it. Some being easier chain adjustments, more seat foam, bigger displacement, better carb, and so on.
I have my 06 white/silver YFZ450 on order. - Just waiting for it to come in.

New for 2006
* Even more performance: a larger, more powerful, 449cc engine, revised carburetion, head design and ignition timing produce even more of an excellent thing—and an increased-capacity radiator keeps it cool.
* New, titanium heat shield is super light and strong.
* New larger-capacity radiator is optimally mounted in the frame to guard against damage.
* More comfort: a longer steering stem, new handlebars and a thicker seat make the YFZ450 nice to ride for a long time.
* Longer travel out back means an excellent ride and handling.
* Aluminum grab bars are light and strong.
* New, eccentric chain adjuster mechanism simplifies that job, and a new, twin-piston rear brake caliper provides strong, controllable rear braking.
* New tires provide excellent traction, handling and ride quality.
* New LED taillight is bright, tough and draws less current.

Engine failures were on early models, the 04s. They had crank problems, mainly experienced whenever high compression pistons, etc were added.
As for the rear axle/ hub splines being stripped out on the 06s, never heard of that one time.
Like I said, the only problem I ever heard of were the 2 bolts, which is a very simple fix, not all of them have this problem, though.
I am on other sites like BT, YFZ Central, etc.
All previous problems on the YFZ's were fixed on the 06 model.

Yeah, I'm talking about new problems for 06. There have been multiple instances, which I've heard about and seen both online and off, with axle splines that strip despite proper hub torque and significantly increased engine wear and tear.
I guess no one that has different information than you can have a clue. He must be an idiot and talking about old problems...
