yamaha 700 raptor vs polaris predator 500
#91
Just for example I raced a 660r when I was stock and he had pipe, intake, jetted. I waxed him easily. I also raced a stock for stock yfz450 and beat him by about 2 bikes everytime we went at it

Actually, I sold the banshee, so now I ride a kawie,(need to change my sig.), but, If you smoked a yfz450 repeadly by 2 lengths, then you are obviously a much better rider than him. But, the name of this topic is pred vs raptor, not crackhead vs rookie, so chill out there buddy.-Seriously, I was trying to be funny, it's nothing personal bud. Apparently, you are a good rider and that is what it takes to win races, BUT, if the yfz guy was also an excellent rider, it would be way closer than 2 bikes.

stock for stock my 04 tld pred will beat a 06 700r from 3 gear on and no matter how long the drag is he will never catch up i got an easy 4 bike lenghts on him.......the raptor makes all its hp in the lower rpm were the pred makes it in the high rpm..........i think you guys were talking about that before??????and please stop talkin about cars....this is a atv forum!!!!!!thx

Anyways, like I said at one point, it is a top speed issue, which is affected by gearing, not by power, as every sport quad I have ridden can top out RPM's in the top gear. If your buddy were to get a rev limited to increase the top RPM's (I think they are available for the 700r, but not 100% sure), then you would not be able to pull away as his quad would have a higher top speed.
Either way, I still have not figured out why these yamaha guys are so against the possibility that a predator has a higher top speed than the 700r.
And, yes I will be a yamaha owner in a couple of months.

Do some homework so you don't have to guess. The info is out there. (tire size, final drive, 5th gear ratio, Max engine rpm, etc.) You can get speed calculation formulae on the net. Put the biased, innacurate debate to bed by bringing the real data.
Ron
Here is the formula: (Max RPM x Tire Diameter) / (Final Drive Ratio x 336) = Top Speed

I was suggesting ideas and some factors as to why the predator has higher top speed than the raptor, though I did forget to mention tire size. My 400ex has a top speed of about 65 with nobbies, though only about 45 with street tires.
Was not my biased inacurate debate, the only other argument I heard can be summed up by "NO way the predator is faster than the raptor."

I wasen't singling you out, why make it personal? Anytime a question is brought up on any of the forums, the hosting forum is naturally biased due to preference. I was simply trying to encourage anyone who really wanted to know to go get some information that answers the question rather than continuing to engage in platitudes and opinions.
I am not any smarter than you are so with the formula above, if you care which is faster, you can figure it out. If you don't care, ignore the formula and don't worry about it.
BTW, you don't seem to own either of the machines in this thread. That makes you more objective than I am since I really don't think much of Predators and I love my 700R.
I wasen't attacking you, simply contributing to the available information.

I actually am just making fun of those biased peoples.
So, 700eater, how about the tire size? Or how do the 5th gears compare?
