yamaha 700 raptor vs polaris predator 500

Now, you know what's going to happen, don't you? We'll all hear "that wasn't a stock vs. stock" comparison. Whine, whine, whine. Here's some cheese to go with it in advance.
Actually it's better than a stock vs. stock. It's a typical mod vs. typical mod and that's the majority of riders these days. Great vid! I guess displacement makes a bigger difference than some people would like - especially when compared to the magical and nebulous "technology" that the Pred has. Maybe after that Pred rider adds some more cc's, he might be able to hang with the Raptor - oops, that means displacement needs to be added to the motor. Hmmm, so much for "technology ALWAYS being better"...
Hey DSNUT - I'm really not knocking DS's, so don't get me wrong. It sure seems like you've modded the heck out of yours. How much did you have to spend to get it to outrun the typical rappy w/pipe and airbox mods?

To outrun a stock Raptor 700R with only the spark arrestor removed, I had to spend $2k. That is a race head and a high compression piston. The DS suffers from a 75 lb weight disadvantage and has 33cc's less motor. I have about $11k into my setup including $5500 for the bike.
If you were referring to a piped 660, I was keeping up with them with just a pipe and a 46mm lectron carb on stock motor.
My race reference was my riding buddy with a piped 660 and my wife has the 700R so we did multiple passes and swapped riders around until we came to that conclusion.

I'm not bagging on the Predator, I really liked mine when I had it. I'm just saying the truth here. Predators are not a great hill bike. They are pretty fast on flats though.
I have video with the same predator rider on my modded 450R (piston / mild porting / cam / exhaust) racing the same exact rider on the Rappy 700, 5 minutes later, and my bike still only beat the Rappy by 3-4 Bike lenghts. I was just impressed that a stock Rappy 700 w/ no baffle was as fast as it is, that's all.

Apparently, I've had different experiences than most people. I have an '03 Predator, and I have raced a couple of Raptors. I raced my friend when he had an '02 660 Raptor, and me and my friend with a 450R both demolished him. then i was stock. Now, i have a trinity full pipe and I raced a guy on an '03 Raptor660 that was totally decked out....lowered, piped, everything, it was on gravel, and he weighed about 80 pds more than me, and he would beat me off the start bad by traction, but by fourth gear if the race was long enough, i could blow past him...anyway, I don't think I've ever seen a Raptor hands down beat a Predator, especially if there was more than one race, and I recall when the Predator first came out all the magazines tested it and it(predator) beat everything else out at that point (450's weren't out yet) but i'm not sure about the predator racing the raptor 700. I can beat my friends on 450r's over 50 percent of the time, cuz they weigh more, but i can't beat the yfz450....so as far as Raptor's commonly beating Predators, that's just not true, as far as the 660 goes...theh 700 could be different i guess. but if that can't beat a yfz450 in a race and the pred loses to the yfz450 in a race, i can't imagine a 700 would cream a predator,

time for a 14 year old kid to start adding some.. fun? idk this thread is pointless i dont even understand why u ppl argue if u think the preddy is faster w.e nothing sane people can say will change ur mind, if u think the 700r is faster then w.e .. BUT the 700 and 660r are both faster, although i do think the 500 predator tld iss better then the 660 raptor all the way around.. but 700r raptor is better then the 500 predator tld al the way around. TLD is nicee.. 700R is nicer
