Default Banshee for the 700R

Do you think it was worth getting rid of the Banshee for the new Raptor 700R?

Default Banshee for the 700R

Excuse the nickname, i got tired of picking names taken! Back to your Q. I visited a Yamaha, Kaw., Honda dealer the other day, and though they had a sharp looking black banshee on the floor, the salesman was adament about how much better the Raptor 700 was compared to the banshee, stating it was faster, handled way better, and that Yamaha should have quit making the banshee a long time ago. I know the government is trying and succeeding in outlawing 2-stroke engines due to EPA regulations being stiffer. Could this be the real reason the salesman was so down on the banshee? I have always been a 2-stroke fan - love the powerband - and am looking to buy a sport quad but would like some input from others who maybe have experience with the Yamaha raptor, banshee, or the Bomb DS 650. Any input would be appreciated.

I have a DS 650 and i think it is an excellent quad. It has a lot of power and it rides extremely smooth. I have also seen the 700R and in comparison to the DS 650 it is a midget. The DS is like twice the size of the 700R and i think it has more power too. You can't count out the banshee though, that is a lot of power sitting behind that 2-stroke motor. If you are a smaller rider i'd say go with the banshee, but it's all personal preference. IMO

Well not really. The Government or the EPA is not outlawing 2 stroke engines. That is a myth.
Now what the EPA is doing is regulating emissions. Engine design does not matter. It can be a 2 or 4 stroke. Now having said that, most of the 2 stroke engines you see today cannot meet these new emission regulations. Atv's like the Banshee and Blaster are gone. There engine designs are decades old and will not meet the requirements of the new regulations. However new 2 stroke technology is being developed. They are already being produced and used in the Marine industry. A good example is the Evinrude E-tec 2 stroke. One day you may see some of these "next generation 2 stroke engines" make there way back into ATV's.....

Default Banshee for the 700R

I owned a banshee for 5 years. I sold it and bought a raptor 700r. I knew I would be impressed but I didn't realize how much more i would like it than my banshee. My shee was far from stock but the only place i could put down the power was an pavement. My 700r puts it down every where. No carbs to jet or crappy airboxes to deal with no kickstarter and the 700r has reverse. The 700r is far more user friendly and I just started racing arena cross and there is no way I could be as fast on a banshee around the track as I am on my 700r.
