disc pipes
#1
I have a supertrapp aluminum racing exhaust with discs in it on my 1996 warrior. Is the alba pipe with discs in it any better than the supertrapp and is it loud cause that is always a problem.

My personal experience with disc type pipes has been a bad one. Maybe because I ride in deep water occasionally, but the bolts on both my recon's megamax 2 and the 250ex's e-series seized up, and the weld that held the nut inside the can broke loose so there was no way to tune the discs, and in the case of the megamax I couldn't repack it either. I like my HMF because it's simple, and it gives you a quiet core option for noise control if it is needed/wanted. There's no discs to mess around with, and to repack it you simply drill out the old rivets and reinstall new ones, no bolts to seize up, strip out, round out, etc.
And my opinion based on my own experinece and other's is that just about any slip on will give close to the same performance gains. Some of the cheaper ones like dg and cobra aren't up to par with the good name brands, but anything $200 and up is in close to the same performance range. The main differences with them are the tone, the loudness, the looks and build quality, extra accesories available etc. If you already have a supertrapp I don't see a reason to replace it, they're good enough pipes. If it hasn't been repacked in a year or two you could benefit from that though, because as packing starts to break down and blow out the pipe will get louder and your power can decrease slightly, or if it gets bad enough it could get to the point where you have less power than your stock muffler did.
