Replace 660R clutch wihtout pulling engine?
Quick question for all you gearheads that have done your own clutch replacment. The service manual says you gotta pull the engine. Looking at the engine case, it looks like there might be just enough room to get the side cover off without pulling it out. I don't want to pull it if I don't have to.
What are my options?
1) No problem. You can get the case open and change the clutch plates without pulling the engine.
2) Small problem. You're gonna have to pull the engine mounting bolts so you can lift the engine a little to provide clearance to get the cover off.
3) SOL - You gotta pull the engine.

No problem at all. Remove the bolts for the footpeg and heel guard. It's also easier if you remove the rear brake pedal to. Remove the bolts, including the one behind the water pump. Take the pump out. Pull the cover off, you'll have to twist it around the clutch basket as you go, add in a few weird loooks on your face while you're doing it and it'll come off. You have to be careful when reinstalling though as you have a new gasket to worry about but it will go back on fairly easy once you master the the twist and angle to it as well as the weird facial expressions. Replace 660R clutch wihtout pulling engine?
Many of you know I have done this between races in a matter of 1 hour. very easy to do, but you must be patient. Like WashRedSkin said, remove all parts in way like foot peg etc and take you time when lifting and replacing cover. It is easier to remove than replace. Only the right angle will work when replacing and it is easier to do when the bike is tilted up. Good luck

Replace 660R clutch wihtout pulling engine?
So, I got-R-done. There were a couple tricks that stumped me for a moment.
1) You gotta pull the water pump out, and then there is 1 clutch cover bolt hiding inside.
2) You gotta pull the brake light switch to get clearance to get the cover out.
3) The cover bolt in the bottom left corner - you can't quite get it out all the way until you get the cover lose. Not a big deal, but do not forget to put that one in place when installing the cover or you'll never get it back on...
