Default Should I Trade Up?

Hi, this is my first post on the forum, look alot, and get alot of great information. I wanted some opinions. I have a 2003 Kodiak 400 that is in good shape and I really like. The power is fine, but sometimes I feel that I am really missing the full potential with not having the locking differential. I am considering selling it and buying either a Kodiak 450 or Grizzly 660. My other option is to put in the Detroit locking differential kit. I don't really need all the power of a 660, especially since I am just starting out. I like the turning radius of the Kodiak, but I also don't want to wish I had gone bigger. I have not had a chance to test ride the Grizzly, so I am not sure if it is a bid difference between the 2 in handling. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

There is a huge difference in power between the grizz and kodiak 450. As far as handling, the kodiak is a bit smaller making it a bit more nimble. The grizz has much more ground clearance and suspension travel. My suggestion would be based on your budget. If you have the money for the grizz then do it and you'll have no regrets, however, if money is tight the kodiak is not a bad choice. I got my grizz in Dec for $6200 Out The Door, so they're reasonably priced. I beleive the kodaik would have been $5200 OTD.

What do you think about keeping the 400 and adding the locker to it? If I don't have to sell and upgrade, I don't really want to, just because of the hassel. I bought my 400 for about $3800 with plow in good shape, and it looks like it would take about $400 to add the locker to it, but I don't want to sacrifice the handling either, since that is what I like so much about the quad. I find that the 400 has plenty of power for where I am riding at, it accelerates well and all of my friends own 400s or smaller. But there is always that bug saying "GO BIG" in the back of my mind.

Well, that's kinda your decision. Obviously the locker is going to be the cheapest as opposed to trading or selling and buying new. If you list it in your local papers it will sell fast. If it were me i would sell it myself, then go buy the one I could best afford, be it the grizz or kod 450. I would'nt hastle with the locker myself. If you are already running the kodiak 400 I believe it's 401cc so the kodiak 450 will only move you up 20cc as the kodiak 450 is actually 421cc. Something to think about...

That is were my dilemma was at. I did speak to a dealer today, and they stated that there was like a 7 hp difference between the 400 and 450, which kind of shocked me. Has anyone had any experience with the locker before?
