Banshees are not hard to keep up... They are just very easy to burn down. The biggest problem is jetting. Banshees come with extra jets from the factory. The Banshee depends on proper jetting to the point where Yamaha included extra jets. Let’s pretend you have a “stock” Banshee. From the factory it would be running 210 main jets. According to Yamaha, a 210 is rated from 32F-70F. Above 70F they want you to run a 200. If you ride at 32F-5F, they say to run a 220 main. A 240 is included just incase it is even colder. Most people take years off their top end with a single winter trip. A 2-stroke jetted for summer riding will run good in summer and REAL good in winter, just before it burns up. Anyone who ever noticed their Banshee or Blaster get faster in summer may be worried right about now.

With jetting aside, run good premix oil and do plug checks before any major trips. We have a Banshee in our riding group that is ported and piped. We have run it for the last 4 years without a top end rebuild. All we do clean the air filters, re-jet, change the oil, and run good pre-mix oil.

I rebuilt my banshee every two seasons just because I wanted two. As previously stated a properly jetted and taken care of banshee will last a long time. And, when you do the top end its pretty cheap and easy in comparison to a 4 stroke if you do just rings.

'm getting ready for some drag racing this weekend. I just got done doing a compression check. The compression on my 558 is the same as it was this time last year when I put this engine together.
