Wolverine

I am currently riding a 00' Recon. This is my first quad. It has been a great starter machine but I am now ready to step it up a bit. Can anyone offer there thoughts on the Pros and Cons of owning a Wolverine. It seems to have the best mix of features that fit my riding style. Love to ride the technical trails but also enjoy the speedy trails that require better handling etc than your typical utility quad. Any input would be appreciated.

I have a 97 wolverine with 26 inch sur tracs..
The bike is great,, If there is one thing I could change is add one more gear lower,,,I crawl over rocks and downed trees, and blast down straightaways with the two wheel drives. the speed and agility is a good combo, and having 4 wheel drive all the time doesn't bother me. people say
its hard to steer,that all becomes transparent after you ride it...I would recommend this bike to anybody....

I just purchased a Y2K wolverine and I love this machine. I wanted an ATV that was able to run on flat land and keep up with the other faster ATVs yet still be able to do some serious 4wheelin through rough and rocky terain. The wolverine fits that bill well at least in my opinion. I guess it boils down to what type of riding you want to do. Do you plan on racing full out? Are you looking for a work horse or are you wantin the best of both worlds? I hope this helped.

Buy a Wolverine you will not be sorry! I have a 2001 Wolverine and love it, like Mick said it is the best of both worlds.....good power, good handling and 4 wheel drive........it is the best handling full time 4 wheel drive I have rode up until now

My friend has a 00 recon. there a nice starter. I have a '01 Wolverine and i wouldn't trade it for anything else. The only thing you will notice in a 4x4 is the turning radius is larger. this is true on any 4x4 and it does not hinder your ability to ride. I don't mind the all time 4x4. It is great in the open speed, sand, dirt, hill climbs and mud. The tires on it are good for stock although i would reccoment a higher tire pressure. somthing around 7-9 PSI. (for any ATV)Well, as i was saying. it is great. I haven't met a chalenge I cant overcome with it and it is quite agile. i can ride sideways on two wheels for as long as i want and the placement of the back rack keeps it from Flipping during whellies. The tourqe is great, It has the same 350 as the warrior. There is nothing else to say other than it's the best. Let me reiterate, if you don't get one you will be sorry.

If you think you might like power sliding, or just throwing the rear around, or letting the bike get really squirrely in the wet stuff - I would reconsider. But only for these reasons. A good friend of mine had one as his first quad and loved it, except for that. In less than a year he traded it in on a Warrior and is exstatic. The Wolverine is an awesome bike however, he just wanted to powerslide (an extreme sportscar enthusiast). I rode it alot. It is very comfortable when jumping (nothing too extreme) and you can wheelie well on it too. I would recommend it to anyone, as I did to him, we just weren't aware of the degree of his "sideways, out-of-control" need. Maybe something with a 4-wheel, 2-wheel option. Good luck.

Thanks for all of the input on the Wolverine. It is at the top of my wish list. By the way, I ride with alot of Ranchers(2wd,4wd). Does anyone know how the Wolverine stacks up against these machines. Also, I have noticed the arguments related to top speed. Does anyone have any honest estimate of the top speed of the Wolv?

I have a question for you wolverine owners.
How does the front diff work (if there's one). Is it grizzly like open diff (the wheel that has no grip gets all the torque), or a real locking diff (when one wheel spins, then the diff locks and sends the torque to each wheel).

I'm afraid the Wolv has a limited slip diff, meaning that the front wheel that spins the easiest, (ie: the one in the air or mud) will be the one that spins. You can compensate for that a little bit by shifting your weight and/or feathering the front brake to trick the differential.
The wolverine is a great bike. My only real complaints are that they have weak rear axles, too high first gear, and very hard on front bearings. The wolverine is very quick for a 4X4 350cc, but most new bikes coming out now are at least 400cc, so the Wolv can stay with the pack, but doesn't always lead it anymore.
