I have a 2002 660, I know this is the year when they updated the trans. my question is is seconde gear still weak,and the shift fork still week? a local shop told me while i was in the bottom end replacing the crank i should replace them 2 but all the bikes I have ver herd them breaking on are the 01's. any body with a newer raptor had this problem?

 

I have a 2001 Raptor that is a high compression 690 now that has a 2002 tranny on it and i have had no problems in almost three years.I do a lot of sand drag racing up hills and i dont baby mine so if i dont have any issues then you are probably fine as well.

I had my second gear crap out on me and I have an 03. If your already tearing down the motor, might as well replace those two parts. I know Im going to replace the tranny when I go with a 686 kit from CC.

 

My buddy's second gear broke on his 02. It was the updated 4-dog gear. The dog broke off the gear, got wedged in the plastic oil pump driver gear and stripped it out. Then the motor siezed up.

I am running my original 2nd gear on my 02 with a hopped up motor. But, I use the clutch when I shift, my buddy was always slamming his in gear.
