Default loose axle.........is it the bearings?

i was out ridin the other day when i heard a loud bang, i pulled the quad over and examined it. a friend of mine noticed that all of the teeth on the front sprocket were stripped off compleatly. i drove it home slowly and replaced the sprocket with one that i have had. today i noticed that there was some play in the axle and i realized that this was probably the reason for the sprocket damage, i knew the raptor had some torque but not enough to compleatly destroy the sprocket like that. so the play in the axle goes back in fourth, there is no play when the tires are spun like the teeth on the axle were worn or something. if i jack it up so the rear tires are not on the ground i can probly move it about a 1/2 up and down/side to side so is this because i need new bearings or what? and if i do have to take the axle out and stuff, is it worth puttin in a lsr or rpm cuz i know the stock ones r junk. thanks.

well i tightened the chain and the axle nuts and i think it helped a little, the play is now only up and down but its minimal. the play is around 1/8 of an inch, so my question is if it is ok to ride it.

Default loose axle.........is it the bearings?

ok, so i decided to do it myself and i have got the axle out and the seals but the bearings r a pain in the a$$ so is there any tricks on how to get them out or should i just keep hittin them with a screwdriver and hammer. also the carrier brackets r also very hard to take off is this because of the bearings, how neccessary is it to take them off or can i just do it while the carrier is still inside.

Leave the brackets.

Beat the living tar out of the bearings from the inside-out. Use an expendible extension or a small pipe. They are hard to get out sometimes, especially the virgin set.

I am on my 4th set.

Putting them in is easy. Just tap them in evenly with a hammer. Then tap the seal in. Grease the crap out of the seal and anything else. Stick your axle back in.

Piece of cake.

Check ebay or rockymountainatv.com for bearings and seals. Good luck!
