Raptor 12 toothe...A MUST
#1
I have 14 hours on my new Raptor. Love it by the way, but I do agree that it needed some gearing down. So, I purchased a 12 toothe Renthal from Dennis Kirk. AWSOME differance. This thing seems to love the new gearing. Major differance. I rode a off road poker run last Sun. I climbed some big hills that I wouldn't even of tried before. It pulls a real hard second gear now, you can almost stop on a hill and take off again. Couldn't do that before. I would highly recomend this to all the Raptor's that do any kind of woods riding. I do mostly woods riding so I will not notice the mph loss on top. Ride on!

The sproket is from a YZ250 1999 or 2000 will work. Renthal does not have any in stock. I called them direct. Dennis Kirk has them for 24.95 + 5.00 service fee. It is well worth the 30 bucks. Ride ON!

Make sure you use the renthal 12 tooth. There are a few other brands selling a cheaper twelve tooth counter sprocket, but people that have used them are complaining about thier chains comming off because of the squared tooth top. I bought mine direct from renthal, and when I get my 2nd raptor back, that baby's going on.

The gearing is really tall on the stock Raptor. I never seemed to get out of second gear and never hit fifth.
I ordered a 12t front(00 YZ250) and a 41t back from a banshee with the intent of putting both on. I put the front on and rode it first for a week and then put the back on taking the front off.
The front gives a jumpy feel but at high revs the HP seems to die off quickly and quit pulling too quickly. The back sprocket was the ticket for me. It gave it good low end and didn't wash out at the high revs so soon.
For a tight MX course I am not so sure I wouldn't try the 12t or both. The problem would most likely be keeping the front end down at that gearing.
