Default YFZ 450 vs 250r

hya, erm i have heard alot about 250r's and i noticed that in the huevos films they go from using a 250r to a yfz450........why is this because i though a 250r was better or it it just faster acceleration???and not the handling? thanks

YFZ is the closest thing to a 250R in terms of handling. and it happens to have more power and accleration. its was a natural progression. it was also released before the 450R. The 450R is a good bike, and as I have said many times i do like mine- it has strong smooth power, good front shocks, is reliable, but while good on its own, it has a high center of gravity, it lacks the 250R's excellent handling manners and better balance.

Good reply twentycharacters.

I like to think of the YFZ as the 4 stroke version of the 250R. Would that explain why you see the change?

Prolly because the 250r's are worth too much to crash!

Not on tracks with any hills to them. Hills really rob power from a 2-stroke, the thumpers can really get an advantage there.

I got spanked by an old 250R on a 1/2 mile oval not long ago. The 2 strokes still dominate when it comes to flat out wide open running. When tight corners and hills come into play the four strokes eat the 2 strokes for lunch. Im sure one reason the top riders all went over to 4 stroke was because the 4 strokes pull through the whole rpm range and 2 strokes have a limited range where they really hit like hell. Not to mention it costs about half as much to build a true competitive 4 stroke as aposed to building a 250R from the ground up. 5 years ago you would have to spend about $15k - $20k on a machine to be competitive , now you could probably spend $10k and have a better more reliable quad.
