As to your shifting question....I would avoid switching from 2 to 4 if your rear wheels are spinning. The front and rear wheels should be turning at approximately the same speed when you engage 4 wheel drive, otherwise, the shift mechanism has to take the forward drive up to the speed of the rear drive instantaneously.

xs smoker's reviw is quite good & I couldn't have said it better myself. I love my 06 wolverine. Ican yard 10ft(20-30" diameter) logs down the hill behind my house and cut it up for firewood. I can ride on any of the local trails or take a trip to the dunes. It is great fun no matter what u do on it. I switched from an Arctic Cat 400 4x4. I thought the arctic cat was ok, now I would ever dream of getting another one. If you one one do yourself a favor get a K&N and a pipe (i have the gytr pipe). It helps alot. I can now pop a wheelie . I still have the perma grin that I got when I did it the first time. My Friends all have sport quads and they think its pretty cool that I can keep up with them & sometimes pass them on a 4x4.This last weekend I had 2 "rescue" them a few times. some of them were riding double and couldn't make up some of the dunes (yes they had paddles) My wolverine did it like it was no big deal in 4wd with a passenger.

Looks like my first statement remains true owners love it and people who haven't spent any time or very little hate it. Ill just have to see what kind of rideing im gonna do. I just moved to eagle river Alaska. so i need to see what will be the best type of ATV. I am firm on Yamaha and its down to Raptor 700r or the wolve two totally different machines.

06wolverine; how much hp did you get from the pipe? I'm considering that one or an HMF slip on with jet kit. Where did you get your K & N?

Eastside; you should be able to answer that question easy. Do you mind shifting? Do you want more of an MX style ATV or one that is more utility? There is a big difference in the riding. If you want to go fast, Raptor. If speed isn't what you are after but going into tough trails, go with the wolverine. It's always best if you can hook up with friends who have quads 1st and go out with them where you plan to ride. This will help you decide. I'm not going to get into a flame war with people who try to bash a product they have never ridden or don't own. If I didn't like it, I would be warning the world. I've ridden one more than in the parking lot of of a dealer.

The problem with the Wolverine is everybody's expectations. If it was manual tranny people would complain it is too much sport. Since this ATV crosses into 2 totally different catagories, everybody is going to have an opinion on what it should be like. In my opinion, they got it right.

Well i taded my bruin 350 in on a wolverine 450 last week and so far i love it. ITS NOT A SPORT QUAD, but it is much more sporty then most 4x4's. So far the top speed is 52 stock. And if you lean back abnd put a foot on the back bar you can get it to wheelie. It takes a little practice, but it is possible. I am also looking at geting a hmf or the gytr pipe when i get this payed off in a few months. Any reviews on either pipe yet?

eastside-If you are living in AK, you have to ask youself what kind of riding are you really going to do???? If you are just going to ride around town and on prepped trails, then the sport quad will be your best bet. If you are going to go out into the bush, then you are going to want a full on utility???? Maybe a Wolverine, will allow you to enjoy both worlds????

Look around the area, and see what other are riding. That should give you an idea of the kind of machine that works in your area!

xsmoker no exact figure for the hp but yamahas website says something like 10 % hp increase. I got my k&n at the local dealer but rockymountainatv.com has them if u like the internet shopping experience. So is it pretty hard to install a jet kit ? I am a rookie when it comes to carbureators. I have been tossing around the idea of a jet kit. The shop says mine runs fine now but I think its running a little lean.
