what's wrong with the raptor 660r?
They had a bad rep in 01 with bad tranny's. I got an 01 and haven't had a problem. They are a lil tippy but I have an extended axle on mine so never had a problem. They are wheelie monsters dude. I just finished turning mine into a 673 with Wiseco high comp. piston and Hot Cam stage 1 and it is sick man.
I just purchased a 06 700R Raptor and am selling my 01 with all kinds of mods. Let me know if your interested.

Here are some things I discovered over the four and a half years I have owned my Raptor:
1.Inspect the water pump housing and the areas around it. If you see any coolant leaking, or if the weep hole on the bottom of the housing is wet with fresh coolant, the pump may be going bad. A replacement pump runs about $50 at your Yamaha dealer, and is easy to replace.
2.Ask the owner to adjust the rear chain for you. The adjustments are one of the worst ever conceived. It is easy for the adjuster bolts to seize and break off in the carrier. This is a giant pain in the @$$, can be costly and is not easy to fix.
3.Listen carefully to the starter as it turns over. Any knocking, grinding or rubbing noises can indicate the starter bearing is going bad.
I think those are three of the more common problems Raptor owners have, besides jetting. But if you take for a test ride, you'll be able to tell if the jetting is off. I have had very few problems with my Raptor, it has been a great machine.
While many people with 01's have not had tranny problems, you'll find it was a serious issue for that model year. Another thing to consider. Good luck.
