raptor carb
#1
hey guys, I have been on this website a long time and understand your just the place to go to when you need an answer. I bought a raptor aobut 3 years ago which is a 2002. It came with a jetted carb k and n filter which will soon be changed to a pro design setup. It also has a white brothers e series full pipe. The quad also ran great after i had adjusted the floats. My problem now is that it also ran rich and about every tune up the plug was also a little rich. It ran fine so i always left it alone. My midrange now has a miss which i have figured to be from dirt in the carb which is from that terrible airbox design i am going to change. My question to you is while the carb is off how do i tell in what range it is running rich and how to adjust the midrange? I believe you change the clip but do not know? Unfortunatly since i bought the quad with the setup i do not kno the pilot adjustments or the jet types and sizes. I figured since it was a minor adjustment it wouldnt matter though?
Also i say it is dirt in the carb becuase it ran fine for 16 hours of riding in 2 days before i started to get a miss if there another reason you might know just let me know in the response.
thanks in advance.......

Moving the needle clip up will lean out the mid range. But, too fat of a main jet will also make the mid range sputter. Usually, adjusting the needle settings is a band-aid. The root problem is probably too fat of main jets or float settings.
If it has Dynojet needles, pull them out and replace with OEM. (They suck IMO) That may solve your problem right there.
If you do prodesign with no lid, you will need to change your main and pilot jets. So wait till you get that on before you change anything.
Close to sea level, with no lid, prodesign, e-series, I would start with #27.5 pilots, OEM needles on center clip, 160/165 mikuni mains. Then check the plug and go from there.
