Default 2002 Yamaha Warrior Oil

I am going to be changing the oil in my 2002 Yamaha Warrior some time this weekend, hopefully today. I need to know what weight of oil do I use in it and how much do I put in? I think it's two and a half quarts, since the mtoors says 2500 cm/3 on the side.

My wolverine takes a bit over three quarts for a full change. I know they're similar engines, but not exactly alike.

Oil weight is an interesting issue. My manual says 20w-40 or 10w-30....no mention of 10w-40. The only 20w-40 I've found locally is the often overpriced Yamalube stuff. The only reason I can think that they don't recomend 10w-40 is the spread between the cold temp and the warm temp....that's about it. However, I'm running it and another guy in our riding group has been running it for years in his wolvie. If you go with 10w-30, make sure it's non energy conserving. Those friction modifiers don't play nicely with the wet clutch.

Thanks, I'll take a look at the Klotz stuff. Do you think I can run the Synthetic Techniplate in it? We run that in the racecar I have (has a 600cc Suzuki bike engine in it), if I could find it in the right weight, the stuff is expensive, but it's really good. Also, is metal lubricant something I should put in when I do an oil change or not? I know the engine builder for our racecar engine recommends it.

Yamaha recommends YAMALUBE, but the cheaper stuff like CASTROL ATV oil looks like trans fluid but it does wonders for the clutch friction discs and no your trans and engine are not seperate you motoroil lubes your clutch and if you use a senthetic it will cuase your clutch to slip and eventually desinagrate rather than wearing out as all the discs friction material will almost just fall off rather than wear off it eats away at the bonding material. If you don't want to use an oil for atvs I would recommend an inferior oil like Harvest King or Kendall something that doesn't have alot of additives.

Synthetic oil will not harm the clutch as long as it doesn't have the friction modifiers in it. I know of a few people who run Mobil1 redcap in their three wheelers.

Synthetic oils don't ruin clutches. Automotive type oils ruin clutches because they have friction modifiers. That Klotz you were talking about, might not be good for your quad if it's for racecars, because it might have friction modifiers. Klotz does make oils for atv's though. You might look at Amsoil they have good oil, and might be more resonable than klotz.
