I use Castrol 20W50 in my Grizzly all the time. The heavier weight oil will hold its viscosity better under extreme temperatures. I have never tried the synthetic oils. I have no plans to do so either. I change my oil twice a year regardless of the oil that I use. So I figure why spend the extra money on the sythetic oils.

I started out using Yamalube in mine, but changed over to Valvoline Duralube. In the summer use 10W-30 and if you have trouble with it getting hot you can try 20W-50. In the winter though i'd use 5W-30, you don't need to use Yamalube in the Grizzly or Kodiak because you don't have any clutches to worry about.

GRIZ,
You can use a car motor il in your griz because it is an auto. However, anyone with a manual trans. quad should NEVER use anything but a motorcycle oil in there quads and bikes. Your auto doesn't use motor lube to cool and lubricate the trany as well, like a man trans does. I know that a synthetic will make cool weather eng starts alot easier. I would try to find a motorcycle oil that you like though. Amsoil you should be able to find in your local motorcycle dealer, however, I still use Yamalube in my 9000rpm performance quad and 12,500rpm YZ426F. Its good enough for Yamaha to put their name on it just like they did your Griz.
Cool quad, goodluck!

GrizzlyJim,
Thats good advice on using a lighter weight oil if you live where the winters are very cold. It rarely goes too much below freezing out here. Even when I go up in the mountains where its snowing, its not usually much below freezing. So for me 20w50 is fine in the winter.
