My hmf was dull looking, and had spots all over it from mineral deposits or something. I took it off the bike and cleaned it as good as I could with soap and water, then used Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish to get it nice and shiny again. It looks even better than new, and the mother's polish leaves a protective coating on it almost like a wax, so it'll stay looking good for quite a while.

before

after, several months later

The same thing works for bumpers, nerfs, etc that are getting dull.
